After weeks of secrecy, Swine and Bird flu cases found in Damascus
DAMASCUS (North Press) – The director of Al-Mouasat University Hospital in Damascus announced on Wednesday that they had found cases of Swine influenza virus (SIV) and Bird flu infections. Leaked reports over the past month suggested that Syrians had been found infected with these viruses.
The hospital director, Issam al-Amin, told the pro-government website Athar Press that his hospital was seeing cases of Covid-19, Swine flu and Bird flu.
He added that these patients were not treated at the hospital as they were considered “mild cases”.
Such cases are diagnosed with the help of a PCR test, he says. He advised those with chronic diseases to take a flu vaccine to avoid severe symptoms in case of infection.
On January 9, a medical source told North Press that they were seeing cases of dangerous flu admitted to Damascus hospitals on a daily basis. In all likelihood, the source said, they were cases of Swine flu.
The source pointed out that many cases had been proven to be Swine flu through tests in several hospitals across Aleppo and Damascus.
