Swine Flu likely spreads in Syria – Medical source
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a medical source, which preferred to be unnamed, told North Press that there are daily cases of dangerous flu admitted to Damascus hospitals with a high probability of being swine flu.
The flu cases spread in many Syrian cities and areas. These cases need careful treatment and long-time recovery. It can lead to death if not treated properly, the medical source added.
The patient usually shows average flu symptoms; however, swine flu causes severe damage to the lungs which can lead to death, it noted.
The source said that many cases have been proven through tests in several hospitals in Aleppo and Damascus.
Recently, many cases of severe flu that take long-time to recover were detected in many Syrian cities and governorates.
Days earlier, Dr. Nabough al-Awa, an Otolaryngologist, told the Athr Press website that many flu cases spread in Damascus hospitals and other governorates.
Al-Awa said, “The cases we see in Syria now are severe flu and show symptoms of infection in the throat and larynx and a strong cough which takes a long time to heal.”
Cortisone medications are prescribed to help with the cough. These cases, although in great numbers, are not Covid-19 because tests show negative results in most cases, he added.
Till now, no official statement has been issued by the Syrian Ministry of Health regarding this flu.
The Autonomous Administration of north and east Syria (AANES) suspended schools as a result of the spread of “seasonal flu” from which three children had died in northeast Syria.
