Armed groups in Daraa hand over their medium and heavy weapons to Syrian government
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Syrian government forces and armed groups in Daraa, southern Syria, reached an agreement to hand over their medium and heavy weapons to the government forces.
Under Russian meditation, the central committees and government in Daraa reached an agreement last Monday to hand over heavy and medium weapons to the government, a source from the armed groups told North Press.
The source indicated that they agreed to deport Abu Munther al-Sabahi, one of the leaders of the armed groups, to northwestern Syria, with the delivery of heavy and medium weapons of all groups.
The government’s Fourth Division had called on the armed groups to deport six of their leaders to northwestern Syria and hand over their weapons.
Last week, Russian Military Police threatened to use airstrikes against members of the Central Committee if they didn’t respond to the government’s demands.
On Tuesday evening, an unknown armed group assassinated Raed al-Rifai, a member of the Air Force Intelligence, in the city of al-Sanamayn.
Al-Rifai was assassinated by an armed group who fired at him in the central market of the city and fled, local source told North Press.
The city of Daraa is witnessing military confrontations between the government’s Fourth Division forces and anti-government armed groups.
