Syrian government sends reinforcements to Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – the Syrian government forces sent, on Sunday, more military reinforcements to Syria’s Daraa governorate, coincided with the recent increase in reprisals.

A local source told North Press that the Fourth Division of the Syrian government forces had brought military reinforcements from Syria’s capital of Damascus, to areas in the countryside of Daraa Governorate.

He added that the government forces seek to increase their military checkpoints between the towns and villages of the eastern countryside of Daraa, in conjunction with the recent murders and kidnappings.

Tensions in the countryside of Daraa have been rising since the beginning of November, when government forces stormed the town of Karak, besieged the city of Daraa al-Balad and carried out arrests there.

The source said, “The government forces have recently felt that they are losing their control over these areas, after the recent security tensions in the towns of the eastern countryside of Daraa.”

He said that during the past two days, members of the Fourth Division raided a camp in the eastern plains of Hauran and uprooted the tents and stole them under the pretext that their residents are allying the local armed groups.

In an attack by unidentified armed men, four members of the government military and security forces were killed on Sunday by unknown persons in three separate incidents in the countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

The Fourth Division withdrew, Friday, from the town of Karak in the eastern countryside of Daraa, after an agreement with the Eighth Brigade of the Fifth Corps under Russian guarantee.

In early November, government forces recruited military and security reinforcements to Daraa Governorate, after the arrest of a number of soldiers of the Fourth Division by the local groups.

At the time, local sources said that a convoy of four cars carrying anti-aircraft fire and dozens of Air Force Intelligence personnel arrived at the eastern town of Karak.
