QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressed his support for United Nations Envoy Geir Pedersen’s statements advocating a successful political transition in Syria.

In a tweet on Friday, Abdi underscored the importance of an inclusive approach to resolving Syria’s political and military challenges, particularly the status of North and East Syria and the integration of SDF forces into the Syrian state.

Advocating for a Unified and Inclusive Syria

Abdi’s tweet emphasized the need for a comprehensive national vision that fosters unity while respecting Syria’s diversity.

“We welcome UN Envoy Geir Pedersen’s statements and support efforts toward a successful political transition. The issue of North and East Syria and the integration of our forces within the Syrian state requires a well-thought-out approach that paves the way for a comprehensive national vision and leads to a united Syria that reflects its diversity, guarantees fair representation, and secures justice and equality for all,” Abdi tweeted.

Acknowledging Challenges

Abdi’s statement comes amid ongoing negotiations and challenges in addressing Syria’s deeply fragmented political and military landscape. The SDF, which has played a key role in combating ISIS and maintaining stability in North and East Syria, has long advocated for a decentralized political system that ensures fair representation for all communities.

The integration of SDF forces into the Syrian national framework remains a contentious issue, requiring careful negotiation and international support.

UN Efforts Toward Political Transition

UN Envoy Geir Pedersen has been actively working to facilitate dialogue among Syrian stakeholders to achieve a lasting political solution. His recent statements emphasized the need for inclusive efforts to ensure Syria’s stability and territorial integrity.

Observers note that Abdi’s remarks align with broader calls for a unified and democratic Syria, underscoring the importance of addressing the concerns of all factions to achieve lasting peace.

Broader Implications

Abdi’s endorsement of Pedersen’s efforts signals a potential opening for meaningful dialogue between the SDF and the Syrian government under the auspices of international mediators. Analysts suggest that resolving the status of North and East Syria will be critical to the success of Syria’s political transition.
