DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, 191 Syrians, including 21 children, arrived at Damascus International Airport, after being evacuated from Sudan due to the intensifying battles.
State-run SANA News Agency said that 191 individuals, including 21 children, of the Syrian community were evacuated from Sudan on a flight by the Cham Wings Airlines.
Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed in a statement that it is following with great interest the situation of Syrians residing in Sudan and wishes them and the Sudanese people security and safety, according to SANA.
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, have been clashing across the country since April 15, leaving behind hundreds of casualties, most of whom are civilians.
The ministry noted that the Cham Wings Airlines helped in evacuating Syrians strapped at Port Sudan New International Airport.
The Cham Wings Airlines commenced two free flights, one with 191 people onboard and the second will arrive on Thursday, according to the ministry.
Sudan today stands on the brink of a civil war that could cause large displacement, hunger, and ethnic cleansing following a two-week clashes that have claimed the lives of more than 400 people so far.
