Turkey calls on Israel to end attacks on Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Turkey’s Defense Ministry on Thursday said Israel must end its attacks on Syria and comply with international law to help establish security and stability in Syria and the wider region.

Rear Adm. Zeki Aktürk, the ministry’s media and public relations adviser and spokesman, said during the ministry’s weekly press briefing that there had been no Turkish military mission at Abu al-Duhur airbase in Syria either before or during the Israeli attack on the facility.

Aktürk said the latest Israeli attacks on Syria target its territorial integrity, sovereignty and unity, adding that “We must absolutely not allow the perception that Israel’s military interventions in neighboring countries are normal and acceptable to take root.”

“The future of the region must be built not on the unilateral use of force, but on a security understanding based on respect for international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries,” he said.

Aktürk stressed the need for the international community to take more effective and concrete measures against Israel’s actions that threaten regional peace and stability, while adhering to international law and humanitarian values.

“Our priority is to prevent our region from being dragged into further conflict and instability, and to ensure lasting peace and security,” he said.

“Within this framework, our efforts and contributions towards protecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and achieving a stable and secure structure, will continue resolutely.”
