Lebanon receives Syria’s offer to supply 150 MW of electricity
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Lebanon received a technical contract from Syria to supply 150 megawatts of electricity, the Lebanese energy minister said on Monday, as Beirut awaits agreement on pricing.
Lebanese Energy Minister Joe Saddi said Syria had offered to produce and sell 150 megawatts of electricity to Lebanon, adding that Beirut had received the technical contract.
“The ministry asked Syria to produce electricity and sell it to Lebanon, and the Syrian government expressed its ability to produce 150 megawatts,” Saddi told LBCI television.
He said the final agreement on electricity prices had yet to be reached.
Saddi also said the power transmission line from Jordan through Syria requires rehabilitation. Lebanon has submitted a request to the Arab Fund to assess the possibility of financing the maintenance project.
