Opposition rejects “free normalization” with Syrian government

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, head of High Negotiation Committee (HNC) of the Syrian opposition, Bader al-Jamous, said the committee rejects any “free normalization” with the Syrian government, and appealed to Arab countries to place “more pressure on it.”

Lately, the Syrian government, which has been shunned by its Arab surrounding for over a decade, witnessed Arab opening and moving towards normalization, especially after the disaster of the Feb. 6 earthquake.

The last rapprochement efforts were made by Saudi Arabia, announcing in a joint statement with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Mekdad the resumption of consular services and flights between the two countries towards boosting diplomatic ties.

Al-Jamous added, “Normalizing ties with the Syrian regime to readmit it to Arab League away from a political solution, evade the implementation of UN resolutions topped by Resolution No. 2254, and without resuming a serious political process according to a given period will grant the regime a green light to evade its obligations.”

The HNC head called on “Arab brothers to place more pressure” and hold national real discussions in order to preserve Syria and enable its people to live a dignified stable life.

He went further adding that “free normalization” to the detriment of the Syrians will not achieve stability, but will increase the rate of immigration for losing hope in a peaceful change.
