DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, an evacuated building collapsed in al-Qahira Street in the Bayada neighborhood of Homs, central Syria, because it cracked after 7.8 magnitude earthquakes hit Syria on Feb. 6.
The Director of the Civil Defense in Homs, Ghiath Aqel, told a local radio station that the building was almost dilapidated due to the long-year war that Homs witnessed years ago.
On Friday, the National Earthquake Center (NEC) in Syria said that the center recorded two aftershocks, the first of a 5.4 magnitude northwest of Idlib at 22:47 on Feb. 15, and the other was of a 3.4 magnitude northwest of Latakia, at 23:17.
The general director of the NEC in Syria, Ra’d Ahmad, told a local press website that the aftershocks might persist for a whole year through more than 30.000 very mild tremors.
On Feb.16, the head of the Homs City Council, Abdullah al-Bawab, told pro-government Athr Press that 17 buildings were evacuated in several neighborhoods in Homs because they were cracked in the recent earthquake after they were inspected by specialized committees.
