NE Syria hosting first technology show

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, is hosting the first technology show in its first season.

Warfin Da’doush, from the marketing department in Rcell company, told North Press that this event is the first of its kind in the region, and it aims at raising information technology culture, and enabling other companies and individuals to showcase their innovations.

The Rcell company is a private telecom and licensed company by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani, and Qamishli in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.

Some 24 companies, students at Rojava University and local developers take part in this show that is organized by the Rcell company.

Omar Muhammad Omar, an engineer from the mechatronic department in Rojava University, said the department have participated in the show through several projects for graduates from the Higher Institute of Mechatronic.

Among the projects applied by the Rojava University graduates are smart greenhouse, prosthetics and others, according to Omar.

He added that these kind of projects are primitive, but help the students to set off and create their own ideas in the technology field.

Omar Shahin, from Ram Group company, said, “We are participating in the show through several service and humanitarian projects that are meant to serve civil society.”

Shahin added that the Ram Group company’s goal is to invest overall energy to build projects that can protect the civil society.  

He told North Press the company displayed some projects, including a mine detector and an eco-friendly Solar-Paneled device to control houses and fires remotely, adding that all these devices can be developed later.
