Alert in city in Syria’s Aleppo following reveal of journalist killer

ALEPPO, Syria, (North Press) – Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions in the city of al-Bab, east of Aleppo in northern Syria, mobilized after the identity of murderers who killed a media activist and his wife was revealed.

On October 9, unidentified gunmen shot dead a media activist, Muhammad Abdullatif, nicknamed Abu Ghannoum and his wife in the city center of al-Bab in Aleppo eastern countryside, northern Syria.

An exclusive source told North Press, “Opposition factions in the city of al-Bab mobilized its militants after the identity of the activist’s murderers were revealed. The murderers turned out to be militants of the Turkish-backed Hamza faction.”

The Levant Front, another Turkish-backed faction, sent reinforcements to support the Military Police after the latter revealed the murderers’ identity by spotting them on surveillance cameras in the city streets.

The military police arrested two people, one of whom was shot during the manhunt, according to the same source.

The wounded was taken to al-Bab National Hospital. The Levant Front cordoned off the hospital fearing a possible break-in  by Hamza faction and kidnapping the wounded person, whereas the other was taken to the military police building in the city.

Activists in the city of al-Bab demanded, through social media, that the murderers and those responsible for it be held accountable, and the faction be dissolved and expelled from its headquarters in the city of al-Bab.

Hamza faction’s headquarter has not given any comment until the moment on the arrest of the two militants who follow a leader called Abu Sultan al-Deiri. The leader is accused of orchestrating the assassination of the activist and its wife, the source added.

Turkey has occupied the city of Afrin and its countryside since March 2018, following a military invasion by the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions called “Olive Branch”. Since then, the region has repeatedly  witnessed killings, arrests and thefts.
