Iran says 11 killed in U.S. strikes as fighting resumes
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iranian state-run news agency IRNA reported on Tuesday that at least 11 people were killed in U.S. strikes on several areas of Iran overnight.
The agency said a missile strike on Khuzestan Governorate in southwestern Iran killed seven people and injured eight others, while four people attending a wedding in Kuhestak, Hormozgan Governorate, were killed. Later reports from Iranian authorities put the wedding strike’s death toll at five, with dozens of people wounded.
The strikes came as the United States and Iran again entered direct military confrontation following the most intense exchange of attacks between the two sides in weeks. The renewed fighting has centered in part on tensions surrounding the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Washington has signaled that it could carry out further strikes, while Tehran accused the United States of targeting civilians, including people attending a wedding.
The U.S. Central Command said Tuesday that its forces carried out a series of strikes against Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets, including air defense systems, radar sites, maritime facilities and assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported strikes on multiple targets across the country, with several attacks concentrated around the Strait of Hormuz, where tensions have increased amid Iranian threats toward oil tankers transiting the waterway without authorization.
Iranian authorities also said their forces carried out attacks targeting U.S. sites and assets in several countries across the region, as part of the escalating confrontation between the two sides.
