Teachers in Syria’s Idlib call for strike

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Some teachers in Idlib, northwest Syria, called on Tuesday for staging a protest tomorrow in the city center against the deteriorating conditions of education in the area.

This came after a series of protesters by teachers over the degradation of education sector while officials of the education turning a deaf ear to this issue.

“we have been calling for the strike for four days, and now we appeal to all those concerned and responsible for the future of the coming generations to take part because it is not just a teachers’ strike but for all classes,” Youssef Muhammad, a teacher and organized of the protest,told North Press.

“We are going to protest as a first step to the general strike for education till the demands of teachers and students are fulfilled. The demands are restricted to material support for teachers and logistical support for schools,” Muhammad added.

More than 100 schools in Idlib have announced a general strike until their demands are fulfilled.
