Turkey protects ISIS like Pakistan protects al-Qaeda, former official told North Press

WASHINGOTIN, US (North Press) – Turkey shelters and provides safe-haven for ISIS, and it protects ISIS in the same way that Pakistan protects al-Qaeda, said a former official of the US Department of Defense on Thursday.

In an exclusive interview with North Press, Michael Rubin said that until the US recognizes that “Turkey shelters and provides safe-haven for ISIS in its territory, ISIS will survive.”

“The simple fact is Turkey protects ISIS in the same way that Pakistan protects al-Qaeda,” he added.

In the early hours on Thursday morning, the US Department of Defense declared its special forces carried out a widespread raid in Syria’s northwest city of Idlib.

Later, the US President, Joe Biden, announced the killing of Abu Ibrahim al-Qurayshi, the leader of ISIS in Idlib, northwest Syria.

Rubin pointed out that the US position toward the SDF is “immoral”, adding that “since the second half of the Trump administration, we have consistently betrayed the SDF in a misguided effort to appease Turkey.”

“Whenever there is a crisis such as the prison uprising near Hasakah, we rely on the SDF,” he noted.

“It’s time we embrace the SDF directly and turn our backs on Turkey once and for all,” the former official of the US Department of Defense concluded.
