DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two Syrian government soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in an attack by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) militants on Wednesday on a military post of the government forces near Mount Bishri located on the border between Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Homs governorates, east Syria.
The two government soldiers were killed and three others were wounded one of them had his leg amputated, a medical source of the military hospital in Deir ez-Zor told North Press.
A military convoy of the government forces and proxy forces left this morning Deir ez-Zor heading to Mount Bishri area to support their forces there, a military source of Deir ez-Zor told North Press.
The military source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, accused ISIS of committing the attack.
On January 24, ISIS launched an attack against Iran-backed factions in Jewif in al-Mayadin desert in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, killing four members.
Since ISIS was defeated in its last stronghold in Baghouz town in 2019 at hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led Global Coalition, the organization turned into sleeper cells deploy in the desert in different areas in Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and other Syrian areas.
