Infighting sparks among opposition factions in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – An infighting between militants of two factions affiliated with Ahrar al-Sham, yesterday, in the countryside of Afrin killed a leader and his companion and wounded others.

Fierce clashes erupted between militants of Liwa al-Muhajireen and militants of other faction as a result of dispute over contents of a fish farm, which Liwa al-Muhajireen stole, in a village in Jinderis District, according to a source of the region.

The leader of Liwa al-Muhajireen, Muhammad al-Benyyan, and his nephew, Mos’ab Shehaza Qasemo, were killed and others were wounded for being targeted by the militants of the other faction who were driving a car and attacked a checkpoint of Liwa al-Muhajireen in a village in Jinderis, the source told North Press.

al-Benyyan, who hails from al-Enkawi village, in the western countryside of Hama, was a leader of Hara al-Sham in Jinderis, according to the source.

The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.

Since 2018, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among militants of the Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety.
