Turkish authorities prosecute people sharing anti-Erdogan tweets

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Turkish authorities prosecuted 30 social media users over anti-Erdogan tweets.

All the 30 suspects, who now face legal lawsuit, used the hashtag #Olmus (Dead in English) which say that the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has died. The hashtag soon became a trend on twitter.

“Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated against 30 individuals for sharing tweets with disinformation and manipulative contents,” the Turkish authorities said in a statement.

Lately, there has been much speculation about the deteriorating health conditions of Erdogan because he showed difficulty in walking in a photo.  

In addition, Erdogan’s attending the COP26 UN climate conference was cancelled allegedly on ‘security reasons’.  

In turn, Anadolu news agency, run by the Turkish state, issued photos of Erdogan in the Turkish capital, Ankara, in an attempt to defy the #Olmus hashtag.
