Russian warplanes raid opposition-controlled areas in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Russian warplanes renewed bombardment on opposition-controlled areas north of Latakia, while the government forces continued their shelling on the southern countryside of Idlib and west of Hama.
“The Russian warplanes raided the al-Kabina hills and the al-Khedr axes in Jabal al-Akrad, north of Latakia,” military sources of the opposition told North Press.
“The Syrian regime forces bombed the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhun, Kansafra, and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with rockets and heavy artillery shells,” sources of the Syrian Civil Defense told North Press.
They added that the bombing also targeted the village of al-Sermaniyah in the Ghab Plain, and coincided with intense flight of Russian drones over the area.
The bombing caused material damage, where more than 15 houses in the targeted areas have been damaged, while casualties were reported, according to the same sources.
Since June, areas in Idlib, Hama and Latakia have been subjected to frequent bombardments by government and Russian forces, killing and wounding dozens of civilians.
The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020; however, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
