Schools in Syria’s Autonomous Administration prepare for new year
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The preparatory shift in schools of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES) has begun, including preparing books and preventative supplies against coronavirus, said an official in the Education Board in the Euphrates Region.
Teachers and administrators are having the preparatory shift this week, while the schooldays will officially start on September 12.
“Teachers are preparing schools for the new academic year, and they are delivering books to schools in order to have all students’ affairs prepared,” Ziyad al-Ali, co-chair of the Euphrates Region Education Board, told North Press.
The Board secured face masks in order to distribute them to students by the beginning of the new schoolday, according to al-Ali.
The Euphrates Region includes the cities of Kobani and Sirrin and their villages, which were administratively affiliated with Tel Abyad before the Turkish invasion in 2019.
The Euphrates Region has about 3,600 teachers in 600 schools with about 60,000 students, according to last year’s statistics.
This year, children born in 2015 and those who were born in January of 2016 were accepted for the first grade.
“We will implement preventative measures to prevent the coronavirus outbreak in schools,” al-Ali added.
He indicated that they will comply with any decisions related to a potential lockdown issued by the Health Board in northeast Syria.
