Drone attacks Global Coalition base north of Iraq’s Erbil
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Saturday, the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS announced that a drone targeted a Coalition base north of Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Coalition spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto said in a press statement that a drone targeted a base hosting Global Coalition forces in the Kurdistan Region, but that the attack caused no injuries or material damage.
US interests in Iraq, especially the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraqi military bases which house Americans, and the Baghdad and Erbil airports, are subjected to attacks often attributed to Iraqi Iranian-backed factions.
This latest attack comes ahead of an upcoming visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi to Washington as part of the fourth round of strategic dialogue between the two countries, which is expected to end with the setting of a timeline for US withdrawal from the country.
