US forces’ Civil Affairs team visits camps in northeast Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a delegation from the US military’s Civil Affairs branch and representatives of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) visited Washo Kani camp in Syria’s Hasakah to provide assistance and assess needs.

The delegation was received by the co-presidency of the camp, Ster Reshik and Abdulhamid Hammoud, as well as the administrator of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in the camp, Shamsa Samou.

The delegation and the camp administration discussed several matters related to the camp and its humanitarian, service, and health conditions.

After the meeting, the delegation delivered assistance to the camp administration, which included hundreds of blankets.

“We hope that our presence will benefit the camp and its refugees, and be a step to support other camps in the region,” one Civil Affairs officer who identified himself as Aaron stated.

Aaron explained that US Civil Affairs coordinates with the Global Coalition to assess where needs are greatest and distribute aid accordingly.

Aaron added that with the coming of the new administration under President Biden, they are “hopeful that in the future there will be more support for Syria.”
