HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) found the body of an Iraqi refugee who was murdered by unknown individuals in Hawl Camp, east of Syria’s Hasakah.
A security source in the camp told North Press that 22-year-old Iraqi refugee Saif Imad Muhammad sustained two gunshot wounds to the head from a silenced pistol in the first section of the camp.
The source stated that security forces rushed to cordon off the location after receiving a report of a murder case around 7:00 PM.
The source added that the killer or killers likely belong to the Islamic State.
Hawl Camp, which is administrated by the Autonomous Administration of North and ast Syria, has witnessed escalating violence since the beginning of this year.
It is worthy to note that most murders target the camp’s Iraqi refugees, the largest population group in the camp at around 30,000 individuals.
Last month, Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Immigration Karim al-Nouri explained that Iraq did not wish to repatriate its citizens, citing the security risk they posed.
