Government forces renew shelling on opposition sites in northwest Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Syrian government forces renewed their bombardment of fortifications of Turkish-backed armed opposition groups northwestern Syria.

The government forces targeted the fortifications of the opposition groups in the villages and towns of Kafr Shalaya, al-Bara, and Feteira in Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib with artillery and rockets, a field source told North Press.

Government forces targeted the fortifications of armed groups in the town of al-Qahira in the Ghab Plain region in the western Hama countryside, with rocket launchers.

The government’s bombardment coincided with an intense flight of warplanes and reconnaissance aircraft over the airspace of the region, no casualties were reported, according to the source.

On Saturday evening, government forces targeted the armed opposition positions in the villages and towns of Kansafra, al-Bara, and Sufohn in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery shells and rockets, the sources added.

Meanwhile, military sources from the opposition told North Press that the Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted government military positions in Kafr Nabl and Zaiton camp with heavy artillery shells.

The de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria has been witnessing a military escalation and mutual bombardment between the Syrian government forces and the armed groups, despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020.
