Mutual bombardment, Turkish reinforcements in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces shelled posts of opposition groups in the south of Idlib governorate, northwest Syria, with artillery and missiles on Tuesday. Armed opposition groups also targeted the Syrian government forces in a similar manner.
The de-escalation zone has been witnessing military escalation between the government forces and the opposition groups for months coinciding with continuing send of reinforcement by Turkey to its posts there.
On Tuesday, Turkish forces sent new reinforcements to Syria to strengthen their posts in the de-escalation zone in the southern Idlib countryside.
A field source told North Press that a Turkish convoy entered from Kafr Lossin border crossing before traveling deep into Syrian territory in Idlib. He added that the convoy, consisting of 25 vehicles containing armored vehicles, artillery, and logistical equipment, headed to Turkish points distributed in the Zawiya Mountain area in southern Idlib.
A military source told North Press that the Ansar al-Tawhid group targeted military gathering of the Syrian government forces in the village of Ma’arat Mochus, in the southern Idlib countryside, with artillery and missiles. The attack resulted in casualties among government and Russian forces, according to the source.
Government forces targeted the opposition in Kansafra and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, with heavy artillery shells and missiles, field sources told North Press, adding that the government also bombarded opposition fortifications in the village of Binnish. The government’s bombardment also coincided with an intense flight of reconnaissance aircraft in the area, with no information regarding casualties.
The government shelling caused material loses in both private and public possessions, reporting no human casualties.
On Monday at midnight, Syrian government forces bombarded the towns of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain and Teqad with heavy artillery shells.
