Syrian refugees die in different incidents in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Syria (North Press) – Several Syrian refugees lost their lives in different incidents in Turkey during the past few days, causing great grief among Syrians on social media.

“Two children from a Syrian family died in the Turkish city of Gaziantep as a result of a fire that broke out in their house,” a source concerned with Syrian IDPs in Turkey told North Press.

Turkey houses about 4,000,000 Syrian refugees, according to Turkish official sources.

“An old woman died as a result of the collapse of the roof of her house up on the family in the city of Gaziantep,” while Syrians held the Turkish government and relief organizations responsible for the fate of the family, the sources reported.

The sources pointed to another incident in which a 32-year-old man died after an electric cable fell on him while he was walking on a street in a district in Gaziantep.

Another Syrian young man died after falling of the fourth floor while working in construction, according to the same sources.

“The Turkish government acknowledges the killing of Syrians or the death of some others while working,” human rights activist concerned with Syrian refugees in Turkey Qais Hassan told North Press.

He added, “last October, Turkish Occupational Health and Safety Council documented the death of 207 people during work accidents throughout Turkey, including Syrian workers.”

“Nine Syrians lost their lives during different work incidents throughout Turkey during the last month,” Hassan pointed.

He stated, “the accidents during which Syrian workers and other workers died included falling from high buildings, heart attacks, in addition to electric shocks, drowning, and violence that workers were exposed to, reached the extent of murder.”

Syrian refugees suffer several difficulties, including obtaining identity documentations in addition to the economic and livelihood conditions and the lack of job opportunities.

These difficult conditions push most Syrian refugees to leave Turkey heading towards other countries they find safe and secure, according to refugees on social media.
