Turkish-backed opposition groups arrest civilians in Syria’s Tel Abyad
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition groups arrested six people in the countryside of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, on Thursday.
Armed opposition groups affiliated with Turkey arrested six people, including two women, in the city of Hammam Turkman, a knowledgeable source in Tel Abyad told North Press.
“The detainees were arrested under the pretext of dealing with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” and their fate is unknown, according to the same sources.
The report of the International Commission of Inquiry that was issued in July accused Turkish-backed armed opposition groups of committing war crimes against civilians.
The report added that “crimes included kidnapping hostages, cruel treatment, torturing, and rape.”
“Opposition groups stormed two other houses in Hammam Turkman aiming to kidnap two young women; however, they managed to escape,” the source stated.
Three days ago, opposition groups kidnapped 40-year-old Saleh Sino Ali from his house in the city center, a source from Sere Kaniye (Ras Al-Ain) said.
“The detained had a shop in the city, and he was arrested under the pretext of dealing with the SDF,” the source added.
Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups seized both Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad following a Turkish military operation late in 2019.
