Establishing a new Turkish military post in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Turkish forces established a new military post in Zawiya Mount region, in conjunction with the continued military escalation in southern Syria’s Idlib.
A military source reported that Turkish bulldozers had raised earthen mounds near the village of Ruwaiha, after Turkish forces carried out a reconnaissance operation accompanied by groups of the National Front for Liberation.
The source added that the Turkish forces deployed tanks, vehicles and heavy logistical equipment in the vicinity of the newly established post between the villages of Ruwaiha and Sarjah, south of Idlib, in addition to dozens of soldiers.
local sources indicated that the new Turkish post was developed after the entry of a Turkish military convoy on Saturday, which was the largest military reinforcements sent to the region.
The new Turkish point is only about two kilometers from the contact lines with the Syrian government forces.
On November 20, the Turkish forces established a military base in the village of Baloun in Zawiya Mount in the southern countryside of Idlib.
The establishment of the Turkish point coincided with artillery and missile shelling of the Syrian regime forces on the towns of Al-Bara, Billion and Kansafra in Jabal Al-Zawiya, south of the governorate.
The Turkish forces began establishing new military points in Idlib countryside, after their withdrawal from five points in the countryside of Hama, Aleppo and Idlib, the last of which was from Sheikh Aqil post, west of Aleppo.
Since its military intervention in Syria, Turkey has established more than 60 military points and bases in the governorates of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama and Latakia in the northwest of the country.
In October 2017, Turkey began establishing military points in northwestern Syria after it reached an agreement with Russia to establish a de-escalation zone.
Most of Idlib and parts of the governorates of Hama, Aleppo and Latakia have been subject since last March to an agreement between Moscow and Ankara to stop military operations in the region.
