The Syrian government and the Russian forces continue their airstrikes and ground bombardments on the de-escalation zones in Latakia, Idlib and Hama governorates, causing more human casualties.

The Syrian and Russian fighter jets have targeted areas in Bidama, Jisr al-Shughur, al-Najiya and Zainiyah in the western countryside of Idlib, with similar targeting on Arihah, Balyun, Kansafra, Khan Shaykhun, and Eblin areas in the southern Idlib countryside, with rockets and barrel bombs.

Moreover, areas in the village of ad-Dayr in Shahshabo Mountain in the southwestern Idlib countryside were subjected to aerial bombing, causing more than 6 injuries, including a child and a woman.

The Syrian government forces also shelled the areas of Kafr Zita, Tal Meleh, and al-Arbaeen in the northern Hama countryside, they also targeted the village of Sirmaniyah in Idlib countryside.

Meanwhile, the Russian fighter jets targeted the town of Kabanah, in Al-Akrad Mountain in the northeastern countryside of Latakia, causing material damage, with no reports on casualties.

This ongoing escalation since late April 2019 coincides with preparations for a new round of Astana talks in the Kazakh Capital, Nur-Sultan (Astana), early next August.

It’s expected that the 13th meeting will be held within the framework of Astana’s political talks on resolving the Syrian crisis with the participation of Iraq and Lebanon for the first time.

The next meeting will review the current situation, especially in the governorate of Idlib and northeast Syria, with further measures are being taken to continue building trust between the conflicting parties and advancing the political process.
