On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces said that it had taken full control of the upheaval that took place last night in the al-Sina’ah Prison in the Gheweran district in the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria, a prison for ISIS detainees, and that none of the detainees escaped.
Kino Gabriel, the official spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said in a statement that ISIS detainees were able to sabotage and remove the internal doors of the cells, create holes in the walls of the dormitories, and take control of the ground floor of the prison.
However, the prison administration announced at a press conference on Sunday night that a number of ISIS detainees had escaped from prison after carrying out the prison break, while security sources told North-Press that on Monday the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) arrested four members of the terrorist group who had escaped last night.
Gabriel pointed out that the SDF's Anti-Terror Forces (HAT) intervened and were able to end the upheaval and secure the center and all the detainees inside it.
He added, "We confirm that there are no escapees from among the detainees, and that the situation in the detention center is under full control."
Gabriel also said that the incident confirms their ability to secure ISIS terrorists, pointing to the need for more support from the international community and the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in order to provide maximum protection for detentions and camps that include ISIS members and their families.
A North-Press reporter said that during the incident, the district of Gheweran, south of Hasakah, witnessed a mobilization of the Autonomous Administration's security forces and military police, amid intensive flyovers by the U.S.-led Global Coalition aircraft in the city's airspace, who launched illuminating mortars in the vicinity of the prison. A number of ambulances were sent to the prison after several ISIS members were injured while trying to break down doors.
