The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a suspected ISIS member and seized weapons and military equipment in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor on the Syrian-Iraqi border on Friday. This comes within the “Deterring Terrorism” campaign launched by the SDF to pursue ISIS sleeper cells on Thursday.

After observing and tracking operations, the SDF Special Mission forces managed to arrest the accused during a raid carried out in Anayat area, south of the town of Khasham in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor near the Syrian-Iraqi border, while the other suspect fled before SDF fighters arrived.

The SDF Special Mission forces seized light weapons and ammunition in the suspect's possession, consisting of four Kalashnikovs, five rifles, eight magazines, and a pistol.

Supported by the Global Coalition and coordinated with the Iraqi military, the SDF is continuing operations to pursue ISIS sleeper cells within the “Deterring Terrorism” campaign along the area from the Hasakah countryside to the town of al-Baghouz east of Deir ez-Zor.

“The campaign is going well and achieving good results and it will continue until the completion of the entire mission entrusted,” the SDF general command said in a statement issued on Friday.

More than six thousand fighters are taking part in the campaign along with US and French forces, according to what SDF commander Adnan Afrin told North Press earlier on Thursday.
