SDF and Coalition raid ISIS sleeper cells in massive joint op in Syria
(North Press) The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) media office said on Tuesday that their forces raided six sites of ISIS sleeper cells near the Syrian-Iraqi border in coordination with the Global Coalition.
In a statement published on its official website, the SDF said that on the 6th day of the Deterrence of Terrorism campaign, they swept a space 70km in length and 80km in width near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
“Commando and the Global Coalition forces raided 6 sites of terrorist sleeper cells. Fourteen suspects were arrested and various kinds of weapons were seized during the operations,” the SDF media-office reported.
The office said that their forces came under fire during one of the raids, without any casualties.
The SDF announced the launch of the Deterrence of Terrorism military campaign to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the eastern desert of Syria adjacent to the Khabur River and the Syrian-Iraqi border in cooperation with Global Coalition forces and the Iraqi army.
“The goal of our campaign is ‘to end the danger of the sleeper cells’ on northeastern Syria and ‘spread security and stability’ in the region,” the SDF official spokesperson, Kino Gabriel told North Press earlier.
In a special interview to North Press, the official spokesperson of the Global Coalition to fight ISIS, Col. Myles Caggins III said on Saturday that the SDF are quite able to prevent ISIS' return.
