More than 30,000 members of internal Security forces monitor the lockdown in northeastern Syria

Hevi Mustafa, the co-chair of Interior Authority in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, said that more than thirty thousand members of Internal Security Forces (Asayish) monitor people’s commitment to the imposed lockdown, estimating the commitment rate to 85%. Meanwhile, civilians from the city of Qamishli criticized the performance of security forces during the ban.

She explained, in a statement to North-Press, that 30,475 elements from all branches of Internal Security Forces are monitoring the validity of the lockdown imposed by the Autonomous Administration as a precautionary measure against coronavirus epidemic.

Mustafa added that the commitment of people is improving day by day, estimating the commitment rate to 85%. She did not hide the violations of the ban in several areas of northeastern Syria, especially in Deir ez-Zor.

The co-chair of Interior Authority noted that their forces have arrested hundreds of violators and instructed them about the need to adhere to the ban as it was imposed for their safety.

For his part, Dr. Fares Hamo, a specialist at the National Hospital in the city of Hasakah, considered that wearing medical gloves by all members of security forces while inspecting personal identifications of citizens is a positive thing, indicating that their commitment to the lockdown measures preserves their safety and the safety of citizens.

However, Muhammad Suleiman from the al-Hilaliya neighborhood in Qamishli, criticized the performance of security forces, adding that he expected more firmness in dealing with the imposed quarantine because a large number of his neighbors are getting out of their homes whenever they like.

Since March 23rd, the Autonomous Administration imposed a lockdown for a period of two weeks, which is extendable, in northeastern Syria.
