The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Tuesday that a field hospital affiliated with it is operating in the al-Hawl refugee camp hospital in northeastern Syria to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and that it is ready to provide support in other Syrian governorates.

Ruth Hetherington, Near and the Middle East Spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross said in a statement to the Russian Novosti agency: "Our field hospital continues to operate in al-Hawl camp and our team has started taking all necessary precautions to protect against the spread of the virus."

She added that the ICRC is ready to provide possible support to the quarantine and emergency centers in Syria, as well as to support various preventive measures against the coronavirus.

Mahmoud Ali, the director of the Kurdish Red Crescent medical point in the al-Hawl camp, had previously told North-Press that no cases of coronavirus had been recorded in the camp so far, indicating that they had formed a medical team to guide and educate the camp residents regarding the precautionary measures.

The Kurdish Red Crescent has taken a set of measures to prevent the Coronavirus in al-Hawl camp, but it considered it as insufficient if the virus reaches the camp, which will be difficult to control due to the camp's lack of quarantine center and the lack of required equipment, according to the Kurdish Red Crescent.
