A Marathon in Raqqa dedicated for combating drugs among the young

The Youth and Sports Committee of Raqqa Civil Council has organized a marathon aiming to combat drugs, in which 120 children and young people participated from the city of Raqqa and its countryside.

The participants in the marathon took off from Rabia farm, west of the city, towards the finish line at Al-Frousiyah Square, about 5 km far from the starting line.

Under the title of “No Drugs” the event aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of drugs. 

For his part, Anwar al-Ahmad, head of the Youth and Sports Committee in Raqqa civil council told North-Press that they were intensifying sports activities in the city to remove what was stuck in the minds of their children during the years of the war. 

“Sport is the best treatment to eliminate the phenomenon of drugs, thus, the committee is working to establish events as such in the city and its countryside,” al-Ahmad added.

Muaz al-Ali, a member of the Youth and Sports Committee said: “The committee has organized this event to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and the early smoking among young people and children in particular”. 

As al-Ali pointed out that the committee is keen on changing the aberrant path followed by young people: “We are working on holding sports events to instill new tendencies among young people,” he added.

Moreover, contestants of different component of the city of participated in the marathon, as Kamal al-Ahmad, one of the participants on behalf of the Future Makers Team, expressed his support for every awareness-raising activity to raise a generation that realizes the dangers of drugs.

The marathon ended with three winners, Karam al-Hussein, 16 minutes at the first place, followed by Ayman al-Sayyid, 20 minutes, and the third place was for Muhammad al-Jawhar, 22 minutes, while the organizing committee has rewarded the three winners with sums of money along with symbolic prizes.
