Thousands of Syrians gather in front of Global Coalition base protesting Turkish threats

Thousands of Syrians of the Autonomous Administration territories gathered yesterday, in front of a US-led Global Coalition base, in response to the latest Turkish threats of imminent aggression and intervention in the north and eastern Syria region.

As thousands of people from several areas of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Al-Tabaqah, Tal-Abyad, Kobani, and Manbij arrived at the Global Coalition base in the village of Kharab-Ishk, 40 kilometers south-east of the city of Kobani, to participate in the sit-in.

The participants held banners and shouted slogans condemning the Turkish threats to the areas northeastern Syria and east of the Euphrates, while others rejected the presence of the Turkish army in Afrin, the displacement and violent actions carried out against their children.

Alongside with the citizens, some officials in Autonomous Administration of north and eastern Syria and tribal and social figures in the region have participated as well.

The co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and Eastern Syria, Berivan Khaled, told North-Press about the Administration’s position regarding the latest Turkish statements: “We do not accept the Turkish threats in any way, as we condemn the Turkish occupation of Afrin, Al-Bab, Jarabulus, and some other Syrian cities”.

“We call for dialogue and peace, we have sacrificed more than 11,000 of lives and about 22,000 wounded to liberate ourselves, the territories of north and eastern Syria won’t be easy if Turkey chooses war,” she added.

For his part, the head of Future Syria Party, Ibrahim Qaftan said: “We came here to support all the people of Syria, not only the ones in  north and eastern Syria, and to support all the Syrian territories, of  which Erdogan wants to usurp, as he did in Afrin and other Syrian areas”.

Ibrahim Qaftan called on the Global Coalition and all Syrians who want to see a democratic course running in the country, supported by the people of the north and eastern Syria.

While, sheikh of “Al-welda” tribe, Hamed al-Faraj denounced the Turkish threats, saying: “This land is ours, and no one has the right to interfere in our affairs,” adding that Turkey has always threatened and attacked their areas, citing to what happened in Afrin and Manbij.

Sheikh Al-Faraj rejected any role for Turkey in the safe zone, stressing its “occupation intentions” towards the region, he also affirmed that the tribes of the region demand the United Nations, the Security Council and the US-led Global Coalition to stop what he called the Turkish interventions in the region.
