We remember SDF martyrs in al-Baghouz and continue our partnership with SDF – Global Coalition

On Monday, the command of the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS issued a statement on the first anniversary of the territorial defeat of the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS) in the town of al-Baghouz in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which was the group’s last geographic stronghold.

In a statement, the Global Coalition command said; "A year after the battle to liberate the town of al-Baghouz, which ended the presence of ISIS, we remember all Iraqi and SDF fighters who joined with us in the battles to defeat the terrorist group."

The statement added that the battles that took place between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the terrorist group ISIS in the Euphrates Valley proved the ability of the allied forces to expel ISIS from the last geographical site that they controlled in Syria, adding, "We respect these fighters who participated with us or were martyred or wounded in the fighting."

The statement pointed out that the partner forces of the Global Coalition in Syria and Iraq can now pursue the sleeper cells of the terrorist group alone, and that the coalition will continue to support them through the U.S. bases in the two countries, and that it will reduce the number of its soldiers in these bases.

On March 23rd of last year, the Syrian Democratic Forces, with aerial and logistical support from the U.S.-led Global Coalition forces, were able to drive out ISIS members from the town of al-Baghouz, the last stronghold of the terrorist group.
