Aleppo women activists hold conference on Syrian women’s reality

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Women activists in Aleppo on Saturday held the concluding conference of the initiative, Power of Decision Through Women’s Voices – From Advocacy to Influence,” to discuss the realities facing Syrian women and present recommendations aimed at local decision-makers.

Hiyam Haj Ali, the conference coordinator, told North Press that the event marked the conclusion of an initiative that had brought together women activists from Aleppo over the past year.

“We are holding the final conference of the ‘Power of Decision Through Women’s Voices’ initiative, which has brought together women activists in Aleppo over the course of a year, while the practical implementation of the initiative began about six months ago,” she said.

According to Haj Ali, the initiative was implemented through a series of training workshops, dialogue sessions, and the establishment of a women’s network.

She explained that the workshops and discussions created direct engagement between members of the women’s network, activists, and decision-makers to address various issues affecting Aleppo, with particular focus on the situation of women.

Haj Ali said the conference concluded with a set of recommendations based on the outcomes of those sessions and workshops. She added that the initiative also launched a digital campaign through an online link that collected 1,200 signatures within three days.

She noted that the recommendations will be delivered directly to decision-makers in Aleppo governorate, adding that the initiative had a positive impact by helping women feel that “they have a voice and that they are active members of society.”
