Blast near Damascus Justice Palace leaves reported casualties

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An explosion struck a café on al-Nasr Street near the Justice Palace in central Damascus on Thursday, leaving a number of reported casualties, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.

Witnesses told North Press that the blast occurred inside one of the cafés in the area, prompting emergency responders to transfer several injured people from the scene to nearby hospitals. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.

Accounts from the scene differed over the cause of the explosion. Some witnesses said it may have resulted from the explosion of a lithium battery, while others suggested it could have been caused by an explosive device. The cause has not been officially determined.

As of the time of publication, Syrian authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or confirmed the number of casualties.

The area around the Justice Palace is one of the busiest districts in the Syrian capital, with heavy civilian movement throughout the day.
