Syrian authorities seize 600,000 Captagon pills, arrest suspects

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian authorities announced on Tuesday the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers during a security operation in the governorates of Homs and Idlib, seizing a large quantity of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition.

The Syrian Interior Ministry said in a statement published through its official channels that the operation targeted what it described as two of the most dangerous drug traffickers and distributors operating in the country.

According to the ministry, security forces confiscated approximately 600,000 Captagon pills during the raids. Authorities also seized light and medium weapons, RPG launcher rounds, ammunition, and various types of grenades.

The ministry stated that the operation followed extensive security monitoring of the suspects’ activities, which enabled authorities to identify their locations and carry out coordinated raids that led to their arrest.

Investigations are continuing to uncover links and activities connected to the suspected network, the ministry added. The detainees are expected to be referred to the competent judicial authorities for legal proceedings.

Captagon trafficking has remained a major security challenge in Syria in recent years, with authorities periodically announcing operations targeting production, smuggling, and distribution networks across several governorates.
