Protests in southern Hasakah demand better living conditions

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Hundreds of residents in several areas of southern Hasakah governorate staged   on Monday protests, demanding improvements in living conditions, public services, and employment opportunities amid ongoing economic challenges.

In al-Shaddadi town, south of Hasakah, hundreds of residents gathered in a demonstration calling for better living standards and improved public services. Protesters also urged authorities to provide job opportunities for local residents.

Meanwhile, videos and photographs circulated by local media sources showed residents in Ghazila village, located in the southern countryside of the governorate, blocking roads by burning tires in protest against rising fuel prices and worsening living conditions.

Available information did not clarify how long the road closures lasted or whether local authorities had taken measures to address the protesters’ demands.

In a separate protest, dozens of residents in the al-Hawl area blocked the Hasakah–al-Hawl road, expressing frustration over the worsening electricity crisis and demanding improvements to basic services.

Participants said the deterioration of electricity supplies has added to the challenges faced by residents, who have experienced years of declining public services.

No official statements regarding the protests or potential measures to address the concerns had been issued at the time of publication.
