Preliminary results announced for People’s Assembly elections in Hasakah, Kobani

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Preliminary results for Syria’s People’s Assembly elections were announced on Sunday in several electoral districts in the Kurdish-majority cities in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, and Kobani region, northern Syria.

Earlier in the day, voting process began in Hasakah and Qamishli districts in Hasakah Governorate, in addition to the Kobani district in Aleppo Governorate.

According to the preliminary results, Fawaz Ibrahim al-Ali, Omar al-Hayes, and Fasla Youssef (Kurd) won the three seats allocated to Hasakah district.

In Qamishli district, the winners were announced as Radwan Sido (Kurd), Abdul Halim al-Ali, Kim Ibrahim, and Mahmoud al-Madi.

Meanwhile, in Derik (al-Malikiyah) district, Ahmad Abdullah Murad (Kurd) and Alwan Aayed al-Ali secured the two seats by acclamation after no additional candidates registered for the elections. 

In Kobani district, Farhad Shaheen (Kurd) and Shawakh won the two seats allocated to the constituency, according to the preliminary vote count.

The elections saw 13 candidates competing for three seats in Hasakah district, where the electoral body consisted of 150 members. In Qamishli, seven candidates competed for four seats among an electoral body of 198 members.

In Kobani, 12 candidates contested two seats with participation from a 100-member electoral body.

The Higher Election Committee had previously stated that vote counting would begin immediately after polling stations closed, with preliminary results to be released following the completion of the counting process.

The People’s Assembly elections are being held amid ongoing political discussions in Syria regarding governance, representation, and administrative reforms in different regions of the country.
