One killed in clash during horse racing event near Tel Kocher
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and several others were injured on Friday during an armed clash between wanted gunmen and members of Syria’s General Security forces at a horse racing event in the countryside of Tel Kocher, east of Hasakah, local witnesses said.
The clash took place during an event for Arabian horse racing in the village of Hamo Kar in the Tel Kocher countryside, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to North Press.
Witnesses said a man was killed and one of his relatives was injured during the confrontation, while a member of the Syrian General Security forces was also wounded.
According to the witnesses, the confrontation began after the wanted individuals refused to comply with orders from General Security members who asked them to stop, leading to an exchange of fire.
The dead man was believed to be leading the armed group and was from the nearby village of Karhok, the witnesses added.
They also reported that several members of the armed group were injured, alongside unconfirmed reports indicating that two Syrian security members sustained varying injuries.
The area has witnessed intermittent security tensions in recent months amid efforts by local security forces to pursue wanted individuals and limit armed activity in the region.
