Qamishli dispute resolved, detainee file to clarify this week – Syrian official
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian government official on Sunday said that a dispute at the Justice Palace in Qamishli city, northeastern Syria, which had hindered progress on the integration and detainee files, has been resolved.
Ahmad al‑Hilali, spokesperson for Syria’s presidential team overseeing the implementation of the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) told North Press that “the full picture will become clear during the current week,” indicating renewed movement on the issue.
Al-Hilali explained that the prison administration under the Ministry of Interior has taken over prisons in Hasakah Governorate, with staff previously affiliated with the SDF integrated into the new administration. He added that the process is continuing despite recent challenges.
The spokesperson said the release of detainees is part of the provisions of the January 29 agreement, stressing that what is taking place “is not a prisoner exchange, but unconditional releases linked to progress in the integration track, even if it is moving at a slow pace.”
