Detainee file to be resolved soon without swaps – Government official
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The detainee file “will be resolved soon” and “there will be no exchange process as that phase has been passed,” Ahmad al-Hilali, spokesperson for Syria’s presidential team overseeing the implementation of the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press on Saturday.
Al-Hilali said that the government has taken over prison administration and will release all individuals previously affiliated with the SDF, while the legal office at the Justice Ministry reviews other detainees’ cases with accelerated procedures.
He added that, following tensions at the courthouse in Qamishli, a meeting was held the next day with SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi and the presidential envoy to discuss the causes of the dispute and ways to address it.
“A subsequent meeting was held with the governor and advisers from the Autonomous Administration, where we set an actionable plan to be implemented this week,” al-Hilali said, noting that the team will also meet the Justice Minister to present the situation and available solutions.
Al-Hilali stressed that both the Syrian government and the SDF are committed to implementing the agreement, saying the challenges are not due to a lack of political will but to “parties whose interests may be affected” and some technical details.
