QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani arrived in Turkey on Thursday as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Damascus and Ankara, according to a brief statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The ministry confirmed al-Shaibani’s arrival but did not disclose details regarding the agenda of the visit or the officials he is expected to meet.
The visit follows a meeting held on Sunday in Damascus between al-Shaibani and his Turkish counterpart, where both sides discussed ways to advance bilateral relations and addressed shared files, emphasizing the need for continued coordination amid regional developments.
In recent weeks, Damascus has witnessed increased diplomatic activity, including a trilateral meeting attended by the Syrian president Ahmed al-Sharaa, Turkish Foreign Minister, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Previous communications between the Syrian and Turkish foreign ministers also focused on developments in the region, including escalations in Syria and Lebanon, as well as broader political and security issues.
The renewed contacts come amid shifting regional dynamics and continued diplomatic efforts involving multiple actors engaged in the Syrian file.
