Syria, Germany discuss investment and infrastructure rebuild in Berlin

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian officials and their German counterparts discussed on Monday investment opportunities and plans to rebuild Syria’s energy infrastructure during meetings and a joint press conference held as part of the Syrian–German Business Forum in Berlin.

Speaking at the forum, Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al‑Sharaa said that Syria is working to reconstruct its energy infrastructure and modernize key sectors to keep pace with global development.

He stressed that the country offers significant opportunities across various fields and has recently introduced wide amendments to its investment law to facilitate and encourage foreign investment.

Al-Sharaa added that Syria’s strategic location positions it as a secure hub for energy supply chains, adding that the country is rich in investment opportunities in infrastructure, as well as oil and gas resources.

During the joint press conference, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al‑Shaibani said that Syria is increasingly engaged with the international community and has developed a joint action plan with Germany, alongside strengthening ties with European Union countries.

Al-Shaibani added that the government’s goal is to transform Syria into a modern state aligned with global progress.

For his part, Energy Minister Mohammed al‑Bashir revealed that the government has signed several agreements aimed at reviving the country’s energy sources.

He said that additional memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed during the forum to deepen cooperation in the energy sector.

Economy and Industry Minister Nidal al‑Shaar underlined the depth of historical relations between Syria and Germany, noting that the Syrian community in Germany serves as both an economic and humanitarian bridge that enhances cooperation and reconnects Syria with the wider world in ways that serve the interests of both peoples and strengthen partnerships with other countries.
