Syrian President al-Sharaa arrives in Berlin for official talks

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived on Sunday in the German capital, Berlin, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, to hold meetings with senior German officials and discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.

According to statements by German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius, al-Sharaa is scheduled to begin his visit by meeting members of the Syrian community in Germany. He is then expected to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Kornelius said that “the chancellor will receive President al-Sharaa at the Chancellery on Monday.”

The visit comes after an earlier invitation extended by Chancellor Merz in January, which was intended to discuss cooperation on issues related to the return of refugees and the stabilization of Syria. However, the visit was postponed at the request of the Syrian side at the time, according to previous statements from Berlin.

During his visit, al-Sharaa is also expected to attend an economic forum, where government representatives and senior officials are set to discuss avenues for cooperation and economic engagement between the two sides.
