Barzani, US envoy Barrack discuss stability of Kurdistan Region

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Foreign Relations Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party said on the X platform on Thursday that Masoud Barzani held a phone call with Tom Barrack, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Syria and the United States Ambassador to Turkey, during which the two sides discussed regional developments and stability.

According to the statement, Barrack conveyed the greetings of US President Donald Trump to Barzani and thanked him for what he described as his “wise leadership” in leading the Kurdistan Region and maintaining its stability, security, and development.

Barrack reaffirmed that the United States continues to view the Kurdistan Region as an ally and a friend, stressing that Washington will maintain close coordination with the Kurdistan Region.

He also underscored the importance of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as key pillars in the region. In light of the current complex circumstances, Barrack said the United States will continue supporting the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Region Government in resolving outstanding issues between the two sides “in a manner that serves the interests of both sides across all sectors.”

For his part, Barzani expressed his gratitude to President Trump and thanked Barrack for what he described as his “constructive and influential role.”

Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region works to strengthen stability across the wider region and emphasized its commitment to democracy, coexistence, and dialogue.

“The Kurdistan Region has always been part of the solution and has never been, and will never be, part of any problem,” Barzani said.

Barzani also briefed the US envoy on what he described as recent “outrageous attacks” targeting the Kurdistan Region by some outlawed armed groups.

Both sides agreed on the importance of keeping the Kurdistan Region and Iraq away from ongoing regional conflicts and ensuring their protection and stability.
