Israeli forces enter town in Damascus countryside, detonate old ammunition
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces advanced on Saturday into the vicinity of the town of Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside, southern Syria, deploying two tanks and seven military vehicles into the area, according to a local source.
The source told North Press that the Israeli units detonated old ammunition after entering several former Syrian government military positions.
He added that the quantity of ammunition destroyed was limited and that the resulting explosion was minimal, causing no reported casualties or material damage.
Beit Jinn and its surrounding hills have been the site of recurrent tensions and covert operations in recent years, particularly due to the presence of Iran-backed militias and former Syrian government military posts near the border with the occupied Golan Heights.
Previous North Press reports have documented Israeli airstrikes and ground incursions targeting weapons depots and reconnaissance positions in the region, as part of Israel’s broader campaign to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in southern Syria.
